Definitely not. To be honest I don’t know much about religious (mainly Christian) treatment towards queer people prior the 1900’s, but I definitely know conversion therapy was created by Ivan Lovaas, who was a UCLA professor, and I checked and there was no mention of him being Christian. Why has it become manipulated for religious beliefs and rights? What rights does a religion have over converting? In Christianity, was it Christian-washed to suit fundamentalist ideals? Lovaas also founded ABA therapy (along with another professor, idk who), which is notorious for being ab*sive and dehumanising. It would be the opposite of religion, wouldn’t it? playing the hands of God to force someone out of their identity?
Conversion therapy is not a part of a religion. It was created as fuel to the bigotry that is prevalent amongst religious people. To ban conversion therapy is not a ban on religious freedom, it's a ban on abuse by the church and the use of religion as a tool for hate.
is the argument from those 7 liberal members really about religious freedom? the liberal party is the same part which called young islamic girls who war hijabs victims of child abuse. Sounds like Christian freedom.
@livtrad04 I think so !! it's highly hypocritical and an obvious sign that they don't actually care about religious freedom and they only care about christian peoples rights.
